10-Day Budget Session for Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to Begin on February 28th

Shillong, February 7 : The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session 2025 is set to commence on February 28th and conclude on March 13th, 2025, as decided by the Business Advisory Committee.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Speaker Thomas A. Sangma at his office chamber in Khyndailad, Police Bazar. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma, and legislators Charles Pyngrope and Lakhmen Rymbui, along with senior government officials.

The 10-day session will include three days dedicated to Private Members’ Business and seven days for Government Business. Speaker Sangma assured that sufficient time would be allocated for all members to participate and stated that the session could be extended if necessary.

New Assembly Building Construction Update:

Speaker Sangma also provided an update on the construction of the new Assembly building in Mawdiangdiang, stating that over 90% of the physical work has been completed. Addressing concerns about delays, he emphasized that ensuring the building’s safety is paramount. He assured that the 2025 Autumn Session will definitely be held in the new building.
