18 LOAN SANCTION LETTERS WORTH ₹ 1.08 CRORE DISTRIBUTED IN MAWKAWAH VILLAGE

Nongstoin, July 27 : A field-level financial literacy event was organized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mawkawah Village, Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills on July 26, 2023. The event was inaugurated by Olden Nongpluh, General Manager and Officer-in-Charge, RBI, Shillong.

General Manager and Officer-in-Charge, RBI, and General Manager and Officer-in-Charge, NABARD addressed the participants on the various aspects and benefits of banking and financial inclusion. An official from RBI, Shillong briefed the participants on the various safety measures and the do’s and don’ts for safe digital banking, customer liability in case of fraudulent transactions, grievance redressal mechanism in the banking system, new developments in the field of digital transactions, viz., UPI, BHIM, USSD, etc.

Around 160 participants comprising farmers, members of SHGs, small entrepreneurs, etc., participated in the programme. A total of 18 loan sanction letters amounting to ₹ 1.08 crore from the banks operating in the area were handed over to the beneficiaries during the event. Further, a few banks had set up counters for Social Security Schemes and note exchange for the benefit of the participants.

The village headman appreciated the initiative of RBI and the officials from RBI thanked the participants, Village Headman, Block Officials and the bank officials for facilitating and making the programme a success.
