1st MLP Battalion Secondary School Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence

Shillong, August 18 : The 1st MLP Battalion Secondary School in Mawiong Umjapung today marked its 50th anniversary with a grand Golden Jubilee celebration, honoring a half-century of providing quality education to the children of police personnel. The event, filled with cultural performances and heartfelt speeches, was graced by distinguished guests, including Meghalaya Health Minister Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh as Chief Guest and Director General of Police (DGP) I. Nongrang as Guest of Honour.

The celebration kicked off with a prayer dance, followed by a series of vibrant student performances and a musical presentation by the Police Band. The program showcased the school’s dynamic spirit and deep connection to the community.

Health Minister Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh lauded the 1st MLP Battalion and its founders for their foresight in establishing the institution. “I am heartened to see how this institution has evolved and now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the more affluent schools in terms of performance,” she stated. Dr. Lyngdoh also called on her fellow legislators to support similar educational facilities in their constituencies.

DGP I. Nongrang expressed her appreciation for the school’s impressive journey and academic achievements, particularly its strong performance in the SSLC examinations. “This institution has overcome many challenges, and walking together for 50 years is a truly commendable achievement,” she remarked, reflecting on the school’s humble beginnings five decades ago in Bishnupur.

During the event, Dr. Lyngdoh inaugurated the school’s new Computer Lab and released its Golden Jubilee souvenir. Teachers and notable alumni were also felicitated for their contributions and achievements. In a significant gesture of support, Dr. Lyngdoh announced a donation of ₹1 lakh to fund the construction of a new library for the students.
