1ST SENIOR WOMEN’S INTERSTATE FRIENDSHIP T20 TOURNAMENT TO BEGIN MONDAY IN RI-BHOI

Shillong, September 29: Meghalaya and the five other North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC) states will be striving for regional glory as they face off for the trophy of the 1st Senior Women’s Interstate Friendship T20 Tournament, which is set to begin tomorrow.

The tournament, proudly hosted by the Meghalaya Cricket Association, will conclude on 4 October and all matches will be held at the Pahamsning Cricket Ground, Nongkhrah, Ri-Bhoi. Livestreaming will be provided through the cricheroes app.

This tournament also acts as a major preparation event for the BCCI’s Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, which kicks off the domestic women’s calendar for 2024-25 next month.

Apart from Meghalaya, the five other NECDC states are Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim. Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are in Group A, while Nagaland, Mizoram and Sikkim are placed in Group B.

All six states have been doing their utmost to grow the sport of cricket among girls and women in their respective jurisdictions and have seen plenty of progress.

In 2023-24 Sentilemla Imsong of Nagaland scored the first half-century for the North East Zone, while Debasmita Dutta of Meghalaya took the first five-wicket haul for the North East Zone too.

Such has been the growth of the game and the passion for it among the players in every district in Meghalaya, the MCA has solid hopes of a BCCI trophy from its women’s team in the not too distant future.
