21 year old surrenders to Police in alleged sexual assault case involving multiple young girls

Shillong, July 16: A 21-year-old man, whose identity has been withheld in accordance with the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, surrendered before the police at Laitumkhrah Police Station on Thursday after remaining absconding for several weeks.

Police have registered a case under Sections 3, 4, 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act, along with Section 64 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the accused was immediately taken into custody after surrendering before the Officer-in-Charge of Laitumkhrah Police Station. He added that the accused will be produced before the court.

The case came to light after several young girls shared photographs of the accused on social media, alleging that he had sexually assaulted multiple young girls over the past few years. Some of the alleged victims also claimed that the accused threatened to circulate their private videos.

Following the allegations, police launched an investigation and began searching for the accused, even though no formal complaint had initially been lodged by the alleged victims. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
