Shillong, October 12 : The 3rd State Level Interschool Traditional Singing competition successfully concluded at Lariti Performing Centre. It was organised by the Department of Arts & Culture in collaboration with the Shillong Public School drawing enthusiastic participation from schools across the entire state.
Children attired in their traditional costumes regaled the assembled audience performing on varied traditional instruments & voicing indigenous melodies and long forgotten tribal rhythms.
FR Kharkongor Principal Secretary graced the program as Chief Guest and emphasised the importance of being connected to culture and rooted in nature . He also assured continued support to such programmes as they fulfilled the objective of preserving , protecting and promoting authenticity and indigenity & urged the young audience to continue to be cultural ambassadors in the next generation
Padma Shri Silby Passah reminded the children of their cultural roots and made the audience come alive with a lively rendition of traditional phawars
Prizes were distributed to the winners with Synod School emerging victorious for their unique performance on showcasing traditional music instruments , with Meghalaya Police Public School coming on top in the solo category
