Shillong, December, 5: The State-level Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme 2025 came to a close today at the Convocation Hall, NEHU Campus, Shillong. There will be 40 youth from Meghalaya who will represent the state at the national level scheduled to be held in Delhi.
At the valedictory function, the hall resonated with vibrant energy of the youth who participated in music, songs, dances, sports, paintings, science and technology, exhibiting their skills which will take them to the national and global stage. The CM-YEP provided the space to align the ambitions of the youth with the initiatives of the government, be it in sports, skilling, hospitality training, entrepreneurship.
Bobby Wahlang, State Youth Officer, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, gave words of encouragement to those who recently visited Indonesia and Vietnam, said, “A true leader is not about control. It is the service they provide. True leadership is not about power but empowerment. Inspiring people is the highest form of leadership.”
Inspiring the youngsters, he said, “My advice before you leave: do it now; sometimes later becomes never. If not you, then who, if not here, then where.”
Rishanborlang Khongphai from East Khasi Hills, winner of painting competition said that he will continue to do better and the platform of CM-YEP has helped to gain confidence, self-belief and interact with people of other districts.
The winners of the Tug-of-war (men) expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma and Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla for hosting the event. The youth were glad that they are getting the opportunity to experience something new and to meet youth from other districts.
The youth shaped by the CM-Youth Engagement Programme will now embark on a journey destined to make them ambassadors. The program is built to help youth overcome stage fright and gain confidence, ensuring they take the opportunity to celebrate their talents and creativity.
The winners in the quiz competition were Ribiangia-i-Syiem and Wansuklang Sanglyne from West Khasi Hills, in the guitar competition, the winner was Pynnehkupar Syiemlieh from West Khasi Hills, the winner for Declamation was Ikasius Samayang from Ri Bhoi, the winner for story writing was Futehsia A. Sangma from East Garo Hills, the winner for Poetry writing was Memmillen Snaitang from South West Khasi Hills, the winner for painting was Rishanborlang Khongphai from East Khasi Hills, the winner for talent show (solo) is Threena Pohthmi from East Jaintia Hills, the winner for talent show (group) were from East Khasi Hills, the winner for tug-of-war (women) was from East Garo Hills, the winner for tug-of-war (men) were from North Garo Hills, the winner of the thematic competition (science mela) were from East Khasi Hills, the winners for the folk songs (group) were from West Khasi Hills, the winners for the folk dance (group) were from East Khasi Hills, the winner for the one act play were from West Khasi Hills.
Present at the valedictory function were D.D. Shira, MCS, Director, Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Paia War Nongbri Assistant Director, Khroo Passah Assistant Director, Darlene Khonglam, Sports Officer Headquarter, District Sport Officers, Senior Coaches, Junior Coaches, PTI and other members of DSYS and teachers of different institutions of Meghalaya.
