68 Officers Pass Out from NEPA 55th Basic Course; Meghalaya DGP Reviews Parade

Shillong, December 23 : A total of 68 trainee officers passed out from the 55th Batch Basic Course at the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) on Monday, with Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang, IPS reviewing the Passing Out Parade as Chief Guest.

Officials said the batch comprised 42 DySP (Probationers), one Cadet Inspector and 25 Cadet Sub-Inspectors/Asstt Sub-Inspectors. The trainees included 15 from Meghalaya, 5 from Manipur, 24 from Nagaland, 10 from Tripura and 14 from Sikkim, with 21 women officers in the batch.

The 55th Basic Course began on January 6, 2025, with trainees undergoing 50 weeks of indoor and outdoor training, including subjects such as Police Science, Legal Studies and Social Science, along with drill, weapons training, physical efficiency, police operations and tactics. Specialised inputs included disaster management, first aid and motor vehicle driving, besides a jungle camp module involving operational drills like cordon-and-search, ambush/counter-ambush and raids.

The trainees also participated in a Post Graduate Diploma in “Police Administration and Investigation” from the Sardar Patel University of Police, Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur, the release said.

NEPA stated that since its inception in 1978, it has trained and passed out 1,043 DySPs and 4,221 Sub-Inspectors from the North East, and also trains officers from neighbouring countries.

The academy has won the Union Home Minister’s Trophy for excellence in police training and has been accredited as an “UTKRISHT” organisation by national bodies, the statement added.

NEPA Director Kavita Jalan, IPS administered the oath to the trainee officers, while the parade was led by DySP (P) Dipendra Adhikari (Sikkim Police Service) as Parade Commander, with DySP (P) Tengchak K. Sangma (Meghalaya Police Service) also leading the parade formation. A band display by NEPA and BSF (Shillong Unit) followed the parade.

Among major awards, the Governor Meghalaya “Sword of Honour” for All Round Best DySP (Probationer) went to DySP (P) Dipendra Adhikari (Sikkim Police Service), while George Pasi (Meghalaya Police Service) received the Best DySP (Probationer) in Outdoor Training and the trophy for Police Operations.

In the cadet category, C/ASI Khyothungo T. Kikon (Nagaland Police) received the Governor Meghalaya “Sword of Honour” for All Round Best Cadet Sub-Inspector, among other honours listed in the release.
