7-Year-Old Missing Boy Found Dead; SIT Cracks Case After Detailed Investigation

Shillong, April 1: In a major breakthrough, the East Khasi Hills Police have solved the murder case of a seven-year-old boy who had gone missing from Nongrah in October 2025, with the arrest of a 32-year-old accused after nearly six months of investigation.

According to the press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, a complaint was received at Rynjah Police Station on October 8, 2025, reporting that the child had gone missing around 4:00 PM from Lum Marboh, Nongrah. Police, along with local authorities, immediately launched a massive search operation across the area, but the child could not be traced.

The following morning, police received information about a child’s body found at Matngen, Mawpat. Upon reaching the spot, officers confirmed that the body was that of the missing child. A case was registered at Rynjah Police Station, and the post-mortem later revealed the cause of death as asphyxia due to smothering.

Given the seriousness of the crime, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted on October 9, 2025, led by senior police officials. Investigators examined multiple leads and sent exhibits for forensic analysis to laboratories in Guwahati and Shillong. However, the case initially saw no major breakthrough due to lack of evidence and motive.

After nearly six months of sustained investigation, during which multiple suspects were examined and scientific evidence was collected and analysed, the SIT identified the accused as Kenedy Khongsit (32). Police revealed that the incident occurred between 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM, when the child had gone to the accused’s house to watch television.

During the course of the investigation, it was found that the accused allegedly instructed the child to fetch a brush and a bucket while he was washing a syntex tank. When the child resisted and continued watching television, the accused, in a fit of rage, allegedly smothered the child.

Following the crime, the accused reportedly hid the body in a syntex tank before later shifting it to the backyard. He then placed the body in a plastic sack, transported it on a scooter, and dumped it by the roadside.

Police confirmed that the accused will be produced before the court, and further investigation is ongoing. Authorities stated that police remand will be sought to complete all remaining legal procedures in the case.
