Shillong, October 4 : The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Zonal Office, North East, in collaboration with the Department of Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya, successfully organized the 9th India International Folk Festival on the 2nd October, 2025 at the LARITI Multipurpose Hall, Mawkasiang, Shillong. The event was held simultaneously in New Delhi and other parts of India, celebrating the spirit of international cultural exchange.
The evening came alive with mesmerizing performances by international troupes — Hay Astger (Armenian Stars) and Nane Folk Dance Ensemble from Armenia, alongside Ziemia Bydgoska from Poland. The artists enthralled the audience with traditional music and dances that reflected the essence of their nations’ heritage. Their performances captivated viewers, highlighting the beauty of cultural diversity and artistic expression.
The festival served as a cultural bridge linking Meghalaya, Armenia, and Poland, promoting mutual understanding and appreciation among different traditions. Through this platform, the ICCR reaffirmed its commitment to fostering international friendship and cultural diplomacy through art and performance.
Marking its 75th year of establishment, the ICCR announced several new initiatives to promote Indian art globally. As part of the celebrations, the Council will sponsor three cultural troupes from Meghalaya to perform abroad, showcasing the State’s artistic excellence on the international stage. Additionally, the renowned Shillong Chamber Choir will represent India in London in December 2025, carrying forward the message of cultural unity and the vibrancy of Meghalaya’s musical heritage.
