Jowai, January 11 : With just days to go, preparations are in full swing for the 6th Meghalaya Games, set to take place in West Jaintia Hills from January 20-25, 2025. The district administration and organizers are working diligently to ensure all venues and logistics are ready for the event.
The games will feature 29 sports disciplines, with the majority of events hosted in Jowai Town, Wahiajer, and Khliehtryshi within West Jaintia Hills District. Two events will be held in Shillong: swimming at the Crinoline Swimming Pool and golf at the Assam Rifles Golf Course in Laitkor.
Approximately 3,899 participants are expected to compete in events including Archery, Arm Wrestling, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cycling, Football, Gymnastics, Judo, Karate-Do, Kho-Kho, Muay Thai, Shooting, Softball, Sports Climbing, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Wushu, Traditional Sports, Roll Ball, Yogasana, and Lawn Bowling.
A curtain-raiser event for the 6th Meghalaya Games is scheduled for January 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the District Library Auditorium in Mynthong, Jowai. The event will be graced by Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri. Shakliar Warjri, and Guest of Honor, Local MLA and Chairman of MUDA, Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla.
