Shillong, May 4: The Meghalaya Football Association held its annual general meeting here yesterday with representatives of the affiliated district associations from around the state in attendance.
Key decisions were taken by the body to strengthen the governance of football in Meghalaya. The meeting was attended by MFA President Hamletson Dohling, General Secretary Sunesh Syiem, other office bearers and members of the district associations.
One of the major decisions was to regulate football tournaments organised by private organisations, sports clubs, etc. In keeping with a directive of the All India Football Federation, any entity that organises such tournaments in future must seek and receive permission to do so from the relevant district sports association affiliated to the MFA. This especially applies to tournaments that feature professional football players registered in the AIFF’s Centralised Registration System (CRS) and qualified referees.
This step underlines the MFA’s commitment to ensuring that football activities across the state are conducted in a structured and officially sanctioned manner. The decision was categorically supported by the affiliated district associations at the AGM.
The meeting also saw the release of the MFA’s financial report and activity report, detailing progress and developments over the past year, as well as the calendar of events for the upcoming season.
The MFA remains dedicated to the growth of football in Meghalaya through transparent governance and active engagement with all stakeholders.
