DC EKH Warns Public Against Fraudulent SHRESHTA Scheme Payments

Shillong, May 23 : The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, has issued a public warning following reports that certain individuals and organizations are demanding payments in the name of the SHRESHTA scheme—an initiative by the Government of India for residential education of students in high schools in targeted areas.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, under whose jurisdiction the scheme falls, has clarified that no payments are required—either online or offline—for registration or association under the SHRESHTA scheme. Any such demand is being classified as fraudulent and a misrepresentation of the program’s purpose.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and refrain from making any payments. Officials emphasized that such fraudulent acts are being taken seriously, and legal action will follow against those found exploiting the scheme.
