Tura, July 29 : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inaugurated two new outdoor gyms in Tura, located at Goanang locality and Nehru Park, marking a significant push for public health and recreational facilities in the town. These are part of a larger plan to establish five open gyms across Tura.
During the inaugurations, the Chief Minister highlighted that these open gyms are being established across the state to encourage a healthy lifestyle among citizens. He also announced that the Tura Botanical Garden at Goanang is undergoing a major development, with plans for walking pathways, a canopy walk, and a cafeteria, backed by an allocation of ₹3.8 crore. Similarly, Nehru Park in Tura is slated for development with various recreational, learning, and outdoor activity facilities for visitors.
Throughout his day-long visit to Tura, Chief Minister Sangma also laid the foundation for additional classrooms at Bidanchi Higher Secondary School, a project funded by the Chief Minister’s Special Development scheme with ₹10 lakhs. He further distributed sanction letters amounting to over ₹80 lakh to 12 different social organizations and educational institutes in Tura.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister inspected the ongoing construction of the Indoor Stadium at Sunny Hills locality. He instructed the sports department to ensure its completion by December to facilitate various indoor events, especially in preparation for the upcoming 39th National Games, which Tura will co-host. Sangma also mentioned that to accommodate athletes for the National Games, the government will encourage and support the development of 10-room homestays in Tura, rather than constructing a new games village.
The Chief Minister concluded his day by laying the foundation for a new skating arena at Tetengkol locality in Tura, a project being developed by the Global Himalayan Expedition.
