Ampati, August 1 : In a significant boost for local women’s economic empowerment, a new Self-Help Group (SHG) Outlet under the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS) was inaugurated today in Ampati by South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Hema Nayak. The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Betasing C&RD Block Development Officer Crystal R. N. Sangma, along with representatives from the District Functional Specialist (DFS), Block Project Manager (BPM), and Cluster Coordinator.
The new outlet highlights the increasing success and impact of SHGs in the district. The Sulguri Maa Santoshi SHG, operating under the Betasing C&RD Block, has been a prime beneficiary of this initiative. With crucial support from the MSRLS, the group was awarded Rs. 4 lakh in seed capital through the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme.
This substantial financial assistance has enabled the Sulguri Maa Santoshi SHG to significantly expand its food processing activities. The funds will be utilized to enhance production quality, improve packaging and marketing strategies, and effectively showcase their products within the newly inaugurated outlet.
The establishment of this outlet is a beacon of women’s economic empowerment, showcasing the power of collective effort and institutional support. It is expected to serve as a vital platform, providing rural women with improved access to local markets, ultimately enhancing their livelihoods and fostering greater economic independence.
The inauguration of this SHG outlet marks a crucial step forward in empowering women-led enterprises and promoting sustainable community development through the dedicated efforts of SHGs across the region.
