Shillong, August 19 : The Dorbar Shnong Mawkynroh-Umshing marked a proud milestone today with the inauguration of its newly built Community Hall by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. The ceremony was attended by community leaders, residents, and students from St. Luke’s and Grace Academy, who also showcased cultural performances to celebrate the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister praised the community’s effort in turning the project into reality. He highlighted the role of the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) in supporting grassroots institutions and villages across Meghalaya, noting that Mawkynroh-Umshing has now directly benefited from this initiative. “Though the fund may be modest in size, its impact on educational institutes, local development, and community initiatives is significant,” Sangma said.

The Chief Minister also assured continued government support for the locality’s youth, announcing plans to provide sports equipment, musical instruments, and entrepreneurship training for farmers and young business aspirants. He encouraged the community to utilize the hall as a hub for constructive activities, ensuring young people have opportunities for growth and recreation.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Sangma emphasized close collaboration with traditional institutions and local communities to foster sustainable development. He described the Community Hall as not just an infrastructure project, but a platform for building opportunities and strengthening social bonds.

Adding to the spirit of the day, children from St. Luke’s and Grace Academy performed the song Ri Lum, drawing applause from the audience and symbolizing the area’s vibrant cultural heritage.

The Chief Minister concluded by lauding the dedication of Mawkynroh-Umshing residents and expressed confidence that the new Community Hall will serve as a transformative space for education, youth engagement, and community progress.
