New, Secure Aadhaar QR Code Simplifies Offline Verification in Meghalaya

Shillong, August 27 : The General Administration Department of the Government of Meghalaya has issued a press release to highlight an important new feature from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI): the Secure QR Code for Aadhaar verification. This new tool, designed to combat the rising use of fraudulent or manipulated Aadhaar cards, simplifies and secures offline verification processes.

The Secure QR Code is embedded in all Aadhaar documents, including letters, PVC cards, and e-Aadhaar downloads. Unlike a standard QR code, this code is digitally signed by UIDAI, making it tamper-proof. It contains key demographic information and a photograph of the Aadhaar holder.

The verification process is simple and can be done offline, which is especially useful in remote areas with limited connectivity. Users can download the Aadhaar QR Scanner App from the Play Store or App Store. By scanning the QR code on an Aadhaar document with the app, verified details such as the holder’s name, date of birth, and photograph are displayed instantly. The app also immediately detects any mismatches or fake documents.

The General Administration Department encourages various entities to adopt this new verification method, including:

  • Government departments and their field staff for KYC and document verification.
  • Banks, insurance companies, and telecom service providers.
  • Employers and landlords for tenant or employee verification.
  • Notaries, advocates, and other document verifiers.
  • The general public for self-verification of their own Aadhaar authenticity.

In cases where a manipulated Aadhaar is suspected, the department advises not to accept the document if the scanned details do not match the printed information. Such incidents should be reported to UIDAI via email at [email protected] or by calling 1947. Additionally, a report can be made to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

The Government of Meghalaya’s General Administration Department urges all offices, agencies, and citizens to adopt this new verification process and remain vigilant against fraudulent documents.
