Shillong, August 27 : The Government of Meghalaya has officially launched the Online Building Permission System (OBPS). The new system, which became effective on August 11, 2025, mandates that architects, engineers, town planners, and consulting firms must register to use the portal for submitting and processing building plan applications.
The notification, issued by the Urban Affairs Department, outlines the fee structure for registration. Engineers, town planners, and consulting firms will continue to pay the same registration fees that were prescribed in April 2018.
For architects who are registered with the Council of Architecture (CoA), there will be no registration fee. However, they will be required to pay a processing fee of Rs. 100.
Third-party agencies, institutes, or government departments that are engaged in vetting or proof-checking structural designs and drawings for projects are only required to onboard themselves onto the system. There will be no registration or processing fee for these entities.
