MFA to provide incentives for Meghalaya’s footballers representing India

Shillong, September 7: The Meghalaya Football Association decided in a meeting yesterday to provide financial incentives to players from the state who represent Team India at the international level.

This move will be welcomed by all Meghalaya footballers chasing the dream of representing the nation and wearing the jersey of the Blue Tigers.

Players in the senior teams (both men’s and women’s) will receive Rs 50,000, while those representing the U-23 Indian teams will get Rs 40,000. Players in the Indian national junior or sub-junior levels will receive Rs 25,000.

Meghalaya has recently seen a number of its homegrown talent reach the Indian women’s U-17 and U-20 teams – Fragrancy Riwan, Ribansi Jamu, Alisha Lyngdoh and Bonifilia Shullai. In the men’s game, Manbhakupar Malngiang and Banlamkupar Rynjah were in the India U-17s last year and Lionel Daryl Rymmei in the U-20 squad.

Going back further, players like Ricky Shabong and Halen Nongtdu were in the age-category sides, while greats like Eugeneson Lyngdoh, Aiborlang Khongjee and Rocus Lamare made it to the senior team.
