Aizawl, September 15 : The 12th North East Zone Shooting Championship (Rifle & Pistol) 2025 concluded successfully in Aizawl, Mizoram, marking a grand celebration of talent, resilience, and sporting spirit. The prestigious event brought together top marksmen and markswomen from across the Northeast and elite armed forces units.
The championship witnessed 258 participants from seven northeastern states and two armed forces teams competing across multiple shooting categories. The state-wise participation was as follows:
- Assam: 75 shooters
- Mizoram: 67 shooters
- Meghalaya: 56 shooters
- Manipur: 26 shooters
- Nagaland: 16 shooters
- Arunachal Pradesh: 2 shooters
- Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU): 5 shooters
- Assam Rifles Marksmanship Unit (ARMU): 10 shooters
This diverse representation reflected the growing interest and skill in shooting sports across the region.
A standout highlight was Meghalaya’s remarkable team, which included five hearing-impaired shooters. These athletes overcame immense challenges—including long, treacherous road journeys through landslides and difficult terrain—to compete and excel. Most of Meghalaya’s medal victories came in Sub-Youth, Youth, and Junior categories. Their performance earned them the honor of representing the state at the upcoming All India Deaf Shooting Competition.
The Meghalaya Shooting Association expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), Meghalaya, for its steadfast support.
