ESIC Launches SPREE-2025 and Amnesty Scheme 2025 in Shillong to Boost Social Security Coverage

Shillong, October 7 : The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has launched two major initiatives — the Scheme for Promoting Registration of Employers and Employees (SPREE 2025) and the Amnesty Scheme 2025 — at a special event held at the Shillong Club. The twin programmes aim to strengthen the social security framework in the North-Eastern Region and promote ease of compliance for employers while extending welfare benefits to workers.

Operational from July 1 to December 31, 2025, SPREE 2025 offers a one-time opportunity for unregistered employers and employees to enroll under the ESI system without facing penalties or arrears. The initiative simplifies registration through online portals, encourages voluntary compliance, and seeks to expand social security and healthcare coverage for Meghalaya’s workforce.

The Amnesty Scheme 2025, effective from October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026, provides employers and insured persons an opportunity to settle pending disputes and unpaid dues up to March 31, 2025. The scheme aims to reduce litigation, promote trust, and regularize compliance by allowing out-of-court settlements and waiving damages once dues are cleared.

To participate, eligible applicants must submit the prescribed ESIC form, furnish necessary records, and pay pending contributions with interest. Upon approval by the Regional Director or a designated committee, disputes will be deemed settled under the ESI Act.

As part of the programme, a Dependent Benefit Sanction Memo was handed over to Sengmek Marak, spouse of Late Pinik A. Sangma, granting her and her children a monthly pension of ₹13,578.

Speaking on the occasion, C. Songate, Principal Secretary, Labour Department, Government of Meghalaya, emphasized the importance of bringing all eligible employees under ESIC coverage. “It is vital to ensure the welfare and social protection of Meghalaya’s workforce,” he said, adding that the state government has given in-principle approval for setting up a 100-bedded ESIC Hospital in Shillong. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to extending ESIC benefits to every district in the state.

Pranay Sinha, Insurance Commissioner (North-East and Eastern Zone), and Robert L. Guite, Regional Director (North Eastern Region), underscored that the initiatives would enhance compliance, resolve long-pending disputes, reduce litigation, and expand social security coverage—benefiting both employers and employees alike.
