Two Wanted Criminals Arrested After Motorcycle Accident in North Garo Hills

Resubelpara, October 12 : In a dramatic turn of events, the North Garo Hills Police apprehended two repeat offenders after a motorcycle accident near Berubari under Bajengdoba Police Station led to the discovery of illegal arms and stolen property. The two individuals, who have a history of criminal involvement, were caught after their stolen motorcycle collided with a tree on National Highway 51, exposing their latest crime spree.

According to official reports from the Office of the Superintendent of Police, North Garo Hills, residents alerted authorities following the accident. A police team immediately rushed to the scene, where they found two injured men lying beside a Bajaj Platina motorcycle (ML 07 B 7072).

Both the rider and pillion were taken to the Bajengdoba Primary Health Centre (PHC) for medical treatment. During the inspection, the public noticed arms inside the suspects’ bags, triggering public outrage that led to an assault on the duo before police intervened to restore order.

A search of their belongings revealed incriminating evidence. Police recovered the following items from two backpacks: Two handmade wooden firearms with barrels, Five mobile phones, One khukri (sharp weapon), A tube of Odomos, one strip of Diclowin Plus tablets, and clothes.

Medical tests confirmed that both men were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The rider, Walchang K. Sangma (resident of Salmanpara, South West Garo Hills), sustained swelling on his right forearm and minor abrasions, while the pillion, Mikselbirth Sangma alias Niksengbirth (resident of Gabil Bisa, East Garo Hills), suffered injuries to his right leg and hip.

Upon interrogation, police learned that both men were habitual offenders who had met in Tura District Jail while serving previous sentences. Walchang K. Sangma had earlier been arrested in a case of crime against women under Ampati Police Station and served seven years in judicial custody. Mikselbirth Sangma had previously been arrested in a kidnapping case registered under Ampati Police Station. During questioning, they confessed to planning further crimes after their release.

The duo admitted to stealing three mobile phones from a public bus and a motorcycle from Rongmil, East Garo Hills, on October 10, 2025. They were en route to Assam to sell the stolen goods when the accident occurred near Berubari.

Police later verified the motorcycle theft with the Rongjeng Police, confirming that a case had been registered under Rongjeng PS Case No. 19/2025 U/S 303(2) BNS.

During further interrogation, Walchang K. Sangma confessed that the handmade wooden arms were personally crafted by him at his grandmother’s residence at RC Road, Tura. He admitted that the weapons were intended to intimidate the public during future crimes.

Police have registered a fresh case in connection with the incident and are conducting a detailed investigation into the duo’s activities and possible involvement in other unsolved crimes in the region.
