U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy: Mewankitbok claims 5-for but M’laya go down to Manipur

Shillong, October 12 : Mewankitbok Kharpuri turned in another special spell with the ball to take 5/32 against Manipur but Meghalaya underperformed with the bat, which led to a defeat by 172 runs in the U-19 men’s Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2025-26 plate group in Chandigarh yesterday.

Manipur won the toss and batted first, making 236 all out in 43 overs to which Meghalaya responded with 64 all out in 22.3 overs.

This was Meghalaya’s second defeat after losing to Sikkim on 9 October. Then, Mewankitbok had taken 4 wickets, including a hat-trick.

Yesterday, Apandanka Marak took 2/39, while Angkit Tamang (1/20), Benedict Jones Makdoh (1/32) and Ashish Kumar Lohar (1/36) were the other wicket-takers. Mewankitbok was not only the most successful Meghalaya bowler but also the most economical, giving away 32 runs in his full complement of 10 overs.

In the chase, only Gaurav Narleng (25 from 30 balls) and Dipayan Nandi (12 from 13) got into double figures as Manipur were too strong with the ball.

Meghalaya’s next match will be against Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.

Meanwhile, there was continued bad luck in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025-26 plate group, whose matches are being held in Agartala. Wet weather has been a continuing issue, with all three of Meghalaya’s matches washed out, including yesterday’s against Arunachal. Meghalaya are next scheduled to face Nagaland on Monday.
