MWSL 2025: Laitkor juggernaut rolls along, beat Mawten in quarterfinals

Shillong, November 4: Laitkor SC proved to be too much to handle for Mawten SC with the former winning 10-1 in the first quarterfinal of the Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, today morning.

There was a hat-trick for the phenomenal Iaraplang Nongrum (2’, 12’, 44’), a brace each for Ibashisha Khongwet (49’, 63’) and Inrila-i-dor Khongthaw (55’, 58’) and one goal each for Ideibanrishisha Kharpan (26’), Ibakordor Wahlang (40’) and Sukrilin L Marshillong (90’+1).

Mawten did not come away empty-handed, though, as Lavinia Lyngkhoi (72’) produced a lovely long-range goal.

Laitkor (from the Shillong Sports Association) were the top team in Group A, while Mawten (Mawkyrwat District Sports Association) were fourth in Group B. With four wins in the group stage, today’s result is a fifth consecutive win for Laitkor, who are the team to beat in the competition.

Ball control, passing and execution were all at their very best from Laitkor, who made good use of the flanks thanks to expert winger Marbarin Nongrum. Mawten tried to test the defence and even this held up well.

Iaraplang, who has been brilliant throughout the season, had another excellent day and was named Player of the Match. She received her memento from Meghalaya Football Association Vice-President Cliff Nongrum.

The remaining three quarterfinals will all be held tomorrow in a triple-header. Na Rympei Football Academy will face Bright Future SSCC at 10am, followed by Pay For Right Football Academy against Mawlum Tyrsad SC at 1pm. Diengshynrum SC and Jakrem SC will then take each other on from 4pm. These matches will also take place at the SSA Stadium.

These matches are likely to be much closer than today’s. Mawlum Tyrsad were the winners of Group B and they will face Group A runners-up PFR. Na Rympei and Bright Future were third in Groups A and B respectively, while Diengshynrum were Group C winners and Jakrem Group B runners-up.
