Shillong, November 5 : In a remarkable step towards rehabilitation and skill empowerment, ACCENTUATE Makeup and Hair Academysuccessfully conducted a two-day Beauty, Hairstyling, and Makeup Workshop for the inmates of the District Jail, Shillong.
The initiative was jointly organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, and the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), East Khasi Hills, Shillong, under the theme “Empowering through Beauty & Skill.”
The workshop was graced by Rosetta Mary Kurbah, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, who commended the collaborative effort and highlighted its importance in building vocational skills and promoting rehabilitation. She noted that such programs reflect a compassionate and forward-thinking approach, giving inmates the tools to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society with dignity and confidence.
The sessions were led by Badap Hynniewta, Educator and Founder of ACCENTUATE Academy, along with his professional team. Held over two days (4th and 5th November) for four hours each day, the workshop featured detailed demonstrations and practical training in makeup artistry, hairstyling, and beauty techniques. Hynniewta emphasized that beauty and grooming are not just professions but powerful means of self-expression, confidence-building, and livelihood creation. He encouraged participants to view these skills as sustainable career paths within and beyond the correctional environment.
A total of 30 inmates, both male and female, participated enthusiastically in the program. The workshop received an overwhelmingly positive response, with participants expressing a renewed sense of purpose, hope, and motivation. The initiative stands as a model for how vocational training and rehabilitation programs can empower individuals with skills that restore dignity and open doors to new beginnings.
