Umpling Unveils New Locality Beautification Project

Shillong, November 20 : A major step toward enhancing urban aesthetics in Meghalaya was marked today with the inauguration of the Umpling Locality Beautification Project by R. M. Kurbah, IAS, Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District in the presence of P. T. Passah, MCS, ADC, S. Warjri, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and community members.

The project, funded under the Locality Beautification Enhancement Project, aims to rejuvenate neighbourhoods across Meghalaya, elevate the tourism experience in urban areas, and strengthen community participation while fostering civic pride. The Umpling initiative, sanctioned at Rs 10 lakh under Phase 3 of the competition, represents one such effort.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner commended the Headman and locality residents for bringing forward innovative concepts that blend modern artistic elements with the region’s cultural identity.

Umpling Headman S. F. Pyngrope extended his thanks to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for its continued financial support, enabling the locality to undertake impactful development projects.
