Shillong, December 10 : In a major initiative to strengthen cultural preservation and boost tourism, the Government of Meghalaya today inaugurated newly developed cultural and tourism amenities for the Nongkrem Dance at Lum Pomblang and Madan Syiem, Smit. The project, implemented by the Tourism Department, marks a significant investment in safeguarding one of the State’s most revered traditional celebrations.

Addressing social divisions, he urged the public to rise above regional or communal bias. “For the State to develop, we have to move forward together in unity and inclusivity,” he said, adding that progress must ultimately be measured by its real impact on people’s lives.

The Chief Minister encouraged more cultural programmes, highlighting their potential to promote Meghalaya’s diverse traditions, attract tourism, and support community livelihoods. He reiterated the government’s support for health, sports, and extracurricular activities, acknowledging that holistic development strengthens both society and culture.

He also addressed delays in infrastructure development, assuring that the administration would prioritise the completion of major sports infrastructure projects and improve connectivity through bridges, retaining walls, and other essential facilities.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong lauded the project as a reflection of the leadership’s focus on inclusivity and community upliftment. He also announced government plans to beautify Iewduh Market, enhancing convenience and safety for visitors and traders.

Former KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem described the event as a momentous occasion for the people, saying the new amenities would significantly benefit the community.
