Shillong, December 13 : The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) on Saturday conducted the National Lok Adalat in the High Court of Meghalaya and all the districts of the State, under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
The initiative was held under the patronage of Chief Justice Soumen Sen, Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya and Patron-in-Chief of MSLSA, and under the supervision of Justice H. S. Thangkhiew, Executive Chairman, MSLSA, and Justice W. Diengdoh, Chairperson, High Court Legal Services Committee.
Chief Justice Soumen Sen attended the National Lok Adalat proceedings at Tura, West Garo Hills, where he interacted with lawyers and litigants.
Meanwhile, Justice H. S. Thangkhiew and Justice W. Diengdoh supervised the Lok Adalat sessions at the High Court of Meghalaya, the District Court, East Khasi Hills (Shillong), and the District Council Court (KHADC).
During the National Lok Adalat, a total of 653 cases were taken up for hearing across the State, comprising: 246 pre-litigation cases, 407 pending cases. Out of these, 186 cases were successfully settled, resulting in a total settlement amount of ₹1,66,26,250.82 (Rupees One Crore Sixty-Six Lakh Twenty-Six Thousand Two Hundred Fifty and Eighty-Two Paise).
