Shillong, January 14 : The Government of Meghalaya has made it mandatory for all candidates applying for posts under the District Selection Committees (DSCs) to clear a qualifying paper on the knowledge of the local language of the district concerned.
According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Personnel and Administrative Reforms (B) Department, the directive takes immediate effect and will apply to all future DSC recruitments across the state. The order reiterates an earlier notification (No. PER(AR)25/2022/24) dated July 24, 2023, which emphasised the importance of local language proficiency for government job aspirants.
The memorandum states “It is mandatory for a candidate applying for all categories of posts which fall under the purview of the District Selection Committee to clear a qualifying paper on knowledge of the Local Language of a particular District.”
Under the revised rule, the syllabus for the qualifying paper will be as follows:
- For districts under the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region — the paper will cover Grammar and Composition in Khasi language.
- For districts under the Garo Hills region — the paper will cover Grammar and Composition in Garo language.
Each paper will carry full marks of 100 and a minimum pass mark of 40.
The directive applies to all DSCs, including:
East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills, West Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, and South West Garo Hills.
