Khliehriat, January 15 : The Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, has reported three separate convictions secured before the Special Judge (POCSO) and Sessions Court in Khliehriat, following investigations conducted by local police stations over different years.
Case 1 : Five-Year Imprisonment for POCSO Offence : A trial arising from a 2022 case registered at Khliehriat Women Police Station led to the conviction of Apurba Das under the POCSO Act. Following completion of investigation and charge-sheeting, the court sentenced him to five years of Rigorous Imprisonment and imposed a ₹10,000 fine, with an additional three-year term and ₹5,000 fine under a separate section of the Act.
Case 2 : Life Imprisonment for Murder : In a separate case recorded in 2020 under Section 302 IPC, Ramesh Dkhar was found guilty of murder and sentenced to Rigorous Imprisonment for life along with a ₹10,000 fine. The investigation in this matter was entrusted to the Women Police Station in Khliehriat and concluded in 2021.
Case 3 : Life Imprisonment and Fine for Kidnapping and Related Charges : A third trial stemming from a 2012 case under Section 364(A) IPC resulted in the conviction of Sanjay Das, who was sentenced to Rigorous Imprisonment for life and fined ₹50,000 after completion of trial.
All three investigations were described as having been carried out “meticulously” before charge-sheeting, according to official releases. The police noted that the judgments demonstrate steady progress in bringing older and serious cases to trial and completion.
