Shillong, January 28 : The Government of Meghalaya has announced that a two-minute silence will be observed across the State at 11:00 AM on January 30, 2026, to mark Martyrs’ Day, in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives during India’s freedom struggle.
According to a notification issued by the Commissioner and Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD), a siren will be sounded at 10:59 AM to signal the commencement of the observance. All movement and work are to come to a halt, and individuals are requested to stand in silence for two minutes as a mark of respect.
During this period, All India Radio will suspend broadcasting, and vehicular traffic across the State will come to a complete standstill.
At 11:02 AM, another siren will be sounded to mark the conclusion of the observance.
In the State Capital, Shillong, the official programme will be held in front of the Meghalaya (Civil) Secretariat, Rilang Building, where officials and staff will join the nation in paying homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives for India’s freedom.
