Shillong, February 20 : The Government of Meghalaya has cancelled the working day on February 21, 2026 in seven districts of the state following the sudden demise of Shillong Parliamentary Constituency Member of Parliament, Dr. Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon.
According to an order issued by the General Administration (A) Department, the holiday will be observed in East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts.
The decision was taken as a mark of respect to the late MP, who passed away on February 19 in Shillong after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.
Officials clarified that other previously scheduled working Saturdays—March 14 and March 28, 2026—will remain unchanged.
