Williamnagar, March 11 : The District Administration of East Garo Hills has imposed a curfew across the district under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) following reports of possible disturbances that could threaten public peace and safety.
According to an order issued by District Magistrate R. P. Marak, IAS, the curfew has been imposed as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and to avoid any disruption to public tranquillity in the district.
As per the order, the curfew will be enforced during the following hours:
- From 10:00 PM on March 10, 2026 to 5:00 AM on March 11, 2026
- From 8:00 PM on March 11, 2026 to 5:00 AM on March 12, 2026
During these hours, no person will be allowed to move outside their residence within the limits of East Garo Hills district.
The order provides exemptions for certain essential services and personnel, including:
- Police, armed forces and security personnel on duty
- Magistrates and government officials on official duty
- Medical personnel, ambulances and emergency services
- Individuals engaged in essential services as notified by the district administration
The district administration has directed all law enforcement agencies and Executive Magistrates to strictly enforce the curfew order.
Authorities also warned that any violation of the curfew will attract penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other applicable laws.
