Police Seize Ammunition from Williamnagar Mosque Premises; Case Registered

Williamnagar, March 13: Police in East Garo Hills have seized camouflage clothing and live ammunition from the premises of a mosque in Williamnagar and registered a case under the Arms Act, officials said on Friday.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Garo Hills District, the incident came to light on the morning of March 13, 2026, when members of the public informed district police that camouflage dresses and live rounds of ammunition were found inside the Williamnagar Mosque compound.

Upon enquiry, police learned that a personnel of the East Garo Hills District Executive Force (DEF) had been staying in a rented accommodation within the mosque compound. The personnel, who is currently on sanctioned leave, had reportedly left behind his personal belongings at the location.

Police said the items included police uniforms with nameplate, belt, boots, camouflage clothing, and an ammunition pouch. During inspection, four live rounds of ammunition were also discovered among the belongings.

Authorities stated that keeping ammunition at a private location during a leave period, instead of depositing it in the designated armory, is unauthorized. The ammunition has been seized and a case has been registered at Williamnagar Police Station.

The case has been filed as Williamnagar PS Case No. 07/2026 under Section 25(1-A) of the Arms Act, and strict legal action has been initiated against the personnel concerned.

Meanwhile, police have appealed to the public to refrain from spreading false or misleading information related to the incident on social media platforms. Officials warned that spreading malicious or unverified information will be treated seriously and may attract legal action.
