Sale of Petrol and Diesel in Loose Quantities Banned in East Jaintia Hills

Khliehriat, March 16: The District Magistrate of East Jaintia Hills District, Manish Kumar, IAS, has issued an order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, prohibiting the unauthorized sale and distribution of petrol and diesel in loose quantities within the district.

The order was issued after the district administration received information that petrol and diesel were being sold and distributed in loose quantities and unsafe containers within the jurisdiction of East Jaintia Hills District.

According to the order, the sale of petroleum products such as petrol and diesel in jerry cans, bottles, or other containers without proper authorization is strictly prohibited under the Petroleum Act, 1934.

The administration stated that such unauthorized storage and sale of petroleum products pose serious risks to public safety, including fire hazards, threats to life and property, and possible disturbances to public order.

In view of these concerns, the District Magistrate has ordered a complete ban on the sale and distribution of petrol and diesel in loose quantities within East Jaintia Hills District.

Any person found violating the order will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)and other relevant provisions of law.

However, the order clarified that the supply of diesel to mobile towers and road construction companies will continue as per standing government orders, provided they comply with the provisions of the Petroleum Act, 1934, and other applicable regulations.

The order has been issued on an urgent basis and has come into force with immediate effect, and will remain in force until further orders, the district administration stated.
