Internet Ban Lifted Across Garo Hills Districts

Shillong, March 18: The Government of Meghalaya has officially revoked the suspension of internet services in the Garo Hills region, bringing relief to residents and businesses affected by the recent shutdown.

According to a notification issued by the Home (Political) Department of the Government of Meghalaya on March 18, 2026, the earlier order dated March 11, 2026, which had imposed restrictions on internet services across several districts of Garo Hills, has been withdrawn with immediate effect.

The revoked order applied to the following districts in the Garo Hills region: West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills.

With the revocation of the notification, internet and mobile data services are expected to resume normal operations across these districts immediately.

The internet suspension had been imposed earlier as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the Garo Hills region following incidents of unrest.

Officials stated that the decision to lift the ban was taken after reviewing the prevailing situation in the region.

With the lifting of the restriction, residents, businesses, and institutions in Garo Hills can now access internet services normally again.
