KSU Rescues Two Girls from Human Trafficking Racket in Haryana

Shillong, March 18: Two Khasi–Pnar girls from East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya were rescued from a suspected human trafficking racket in Haryana following a joint effort by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit and the Special Police Unit for North East Region (SPUNER).

The rescued victims include a 15-year-old minor and an 18-year-old girl, both residents of East Jaintia Hills.

According to the KSU, the girls were initially promised jobs as domestic workers. However, after arriving in Delhi, they were allegedly taken to a spa in Haryana where they were forced into prostitution. Despite the difficult circumstances, the girls managed to contact their families over the phone. Their family members then immediately alerted the KSU Delhi Unit, seeking urgent assistance. Acting on the information, the KSU Delhi Unit informed SPUNER and, through coordinated efforts, the authorities were able to trace the girls and rescue them from Haryana.

In a statement issued to the media, the KSU Delhi Unit expressed gratitude to all those involved in the rescue operation. The Union thanked ARC Meghalaya House official Sabrina for her assistance and also acknowledged the support of SPUNER Joint Commissioner of Police Nabam Gungte. The rescue team included Sub-Inspector Ngalung Wung, ASI Naveen Kumar, Head Constable Satish Kumar and Woman Constable Lalrinhluni, whose efforts were commended by the Union.

KSU Delhi Unit President Marbiang Khongwir said the incident highlights the serious risks faced by young people from the region who travel outside the state in search of employment. She urged parents and youths to remain cautious and vigilant against fraudulent job offers made by traffickers and assured that the Union remains committed to protecting the welfare of the Khasi community in the Delhi-NCR region. Khongwir added that the KSU will continue to work closely with authorities to ensure the safe return of the rescued girls to their homes.

The Union also expressed appreciation to Khliehriat MLA Kyrmen Shylla for providing financial assistance to cover the airfare required to bring the two girls back to Meghalaya.
