SECURITY REVIEW AHEAD OF EID; ADMINISTRATION URGES PEACE AND VIGILANCE

Tura, March 19 : In view of the upcoming Eid festival, Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal chaired a high-level meeting to review the prevailing security situation in the district, with a focus on strengthening coordination among the administration, police, and central forces. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police and representatives from various security agencies, to ensure seamless coordination and address operational concerns.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of maintaining peace and ensuring robust security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents during the festive period. Magistrates have been deployed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order, while security forces continue to be stationed across the district.

Night curfew remains in force as a precautionary measure, with the administration closely monitoring the situation. Officials stated that the curfew is being reviewed daily, and any changes or relaxations will be communicated promptly.

Highlighting the role of citizens, Aggarwal appreciated the public’s efforts in opposing violence and promoting communal harmony. He noted that several peace meetings and prayer gatherings held across the district have sent a strong message against unrest. The administration has also been actively engaging with communities in various areas, including the plain belt, to restore normalcy. A recent meeting at Shyamnagar involving church leaders and community members was described as positive, reflecting a shared commitment to peace and stability.

Addressing concerns over misinformation, the Deputy Commissioner stated that curbing fake news remains a top priority. He informed that internet services, which were temporarily suspended, have now been restored to facilitate access to verified information and curb the spread of rumours. The public has been urged to rely only on official sources and trusted news platforms for accurate updates. Contact numbers of local police stations and control rooms have also been shared for public assistance and clarification.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to residents to continue cooperating with authorities, refrain from spreading unverified information, and uphold peace and communal harmony across the district, especially during the festive period.
