Shillong, March 22 : Students of Laitkor Presbyterian Secondary School in East Khasi Hills actively participated in a Swachhata and Nutrition Awareness Programme organised by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong, on March 20.
The initiative aimed to promote awareness on hygiene, sanitation, and balanced nutrition, while encouraging students to adopt responsible and healthy practices in their daily lives.
Speaking at the event, Womber Shadap from the Urban Affairs Department highlighted the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission, stressing that the campaign goes beyond infrastructure to focus on long-term behavioural change.
He encouraged students to practice waste segregation, avoid littering, and take personal responsibility for cleanliness under the theme “My Waste, My Responsibility.” The session also included interactive discussions where students shared their daily habits and ideas for maintaining clean surroundings.
District Health & Education Officer of East Khasi Hills, O. Sumer, conducted an engaging session on nutrition, underlining the importance of a balanced diet and healthy eating habits. She also spoke about the Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) programme, aimed at preventing anaemia among adolescents and improving overall health and concentration.
Headmistress Rupaia Pala appreciated the programme and encouraged students to consistently follow hygienic practices and maintain nutritious diets.
To reinforce awareness, quiz and art competitions on cleanliness and nutrition were organised, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students. Winners were awarded prizes, adding to the spirit of engagement and learning.
The programme saw active involvement from students, teachers, and school authorities, serving as an effective platform to promote awareness and collective responsibility towards building a cleaner and healthier society.
