Shillong, March 23: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday attended the platinum jubilee celebration of RCLP School, Kyndong Tuber in West Jaiñtia Hills district, marking 75 years of the institution’s contribution to education.
The event was attended by Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang, the parish priest of St. Joseph Kyndong Tuber, church elders, village leaders, alumni, parents, students and other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Rymbui paid tribute to the founders and contributors of the school while raising concerns over student dropout rates in rural areas. He attributed the issue largely to financial constraints and highlighted various government initiatives aimed at supporting students.
The minister noted that scholarship amounts have been increased since 2018 under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and urged eligible students to avail of these benefits.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by the school managing committee, Rymbui assured that the government would examine the issues and explore possible support, particularly for improving classroom infrastructure for the school, which has around 300 students.
He also informed that government schools are being provided essential facilities such as kitchen sheds and toilets, adding that the Government LP School of Kyndong Tuber is expected to benefit from these provisions within the year.
Emphasising unity in development efforts, the minister encouraged the managing committee to continue its work and assured continued government support.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang lauded the founders and managing committee, stating that the institution’s 75-year journey reflects dedication and vision. He encouraged students to pursue diverse career opportunities and contribute to society.
The celebration featured a march past by students, a presentation on the school’s achievements, and an award ceremony where prizes were distributed to deserving students.
