Mandatory Registration for Private Coaching Centres in East Khasi Hills

Shillong, March 26 : The Government of Meghalaya has officially notified the Meghalaya Registration of Private Coaching Centre Rules, 2026, aimed at regulating private coaching institutes and safeguarding student interests across the state.

As per the notification issued by the Education Department, all private coaching centres operating in the state—both online and offline—are required to register with the authorities. The move is intended to bring greater accountability and standardisation within the sector.

The newly introduced rules mandate the adoption of student protection norms, including the establishment of effective grievance redressal mechanisms to address complaints and concerns of students.

The framework has been developed in compliance with directions of the Supreme Court in the case Sukdeb Saha vs. The State of Andhra Pradesh & Others (2025), ensuring legal backing and uniformity in implementation.

All private coaching centres under East Khasi Hills district have been instructed to register with the Education Department as per the provisions of the notified rules. Authorities have also urged strict compliance from all stakeholders.

The initiative is expected to enhance transparency, improve educational standards, and ensure the welfare and protection of students enrolled in private coaching institutions across Meghalaya.
