KSU SUBMITS MEMORANDUM TO CHIEF SECRETARY OVER PENDING ISSUES

Shillong, March 26 : The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed, raising concerns over several long-pending issues and seeking urgent intervention from the state government.

The Union highlighted unresolved demands related to recruitment at NEIGRIHMS, including reservation quotas and recruitment procedures. It stated that assurances were previously given by the state government, but no concrete progress has been made so far.

KSU expressed concern over the delay in implementing the Meghalaya Identification, Registration (Safety & Security) of Migrant Workers (Amendment) Act, 2024, despite cabinet approval. The Union warned that further delays could lead to renewed eviction drives against illegal migrant workers.

The Union alleged irregularities and lack of transparency in District Selection Committees (DSCs), citing issues such as nepotism and corruption. It reiterated its earlier demands, including declaration of cut-off marks, answer keys, and greater transparency in recruitment processes.

KSU also opposed the directive requiring students to sing and record ‘Vande Mataram’, stating that it may not be suitable for all faiths in a secular country. The Union warned of possible agitation if such directives continue.

The Union urged the government to expedite action against illegal settlers in areas such as Mahadev Khola and Maxwelton Estate, describing the issue as long pending with no tangible progress.

KSU indicated that failure to address these issues could lead to further protests and agitation.
