New Delhi, March 27 : The Central Government has announced a reduction of ₹10 per litre in excise duty on petrol and diesel for domestic consumption, aiming to shield consumers from rising fuel prices amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the decision is intended to protect citizens from fluctuations in global supply and price volatility of essential commodities.
In addition, the government has imposed export duties on fuel products:
- ₹21.5 per litre on diesel exports
- ₹29.5 per litre on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF)
These measures are aimed at ensuring adequate availability of fuel for domestic consumption.
The decision comes against the backdrop of the ongoing crisis in West Asia, which has raised concerns over global fuel supply disruptions and price escalation.
The government has notified Parliament regarding the changes, highlighting its commitment to maintaining fuel availability and stabilising prices for consumers across the country.
