Shillong, March 27 : Meghalaya swimmer Verem Gedaliah Nongsiej clinched a bronze medal in the Women’s 50 metres freestyle event at the 1st edition of the Khelo India Tribal Games held in Chhattisgarh.
With this achievement, Verem Gedaliah Nongsiej has become the first athlete from Meghalaya to win a medal in national-level swimming competitions, marking a historic milestone for the state.
She represented Meghalaya alongside seven other athletes selected by the Meghalaya Swimming Association for the prestigious event.
The young swimmer is trained by High Performance Coach Laitonjam Santosh, whose guidance played a key role in her success.
The Meghalaya Swimming Association expressed pride in her accomplishment and extended best wishes for her future endeavours.
Verem, the only daughter of Mrs. Meiada Nongsiej, has brought recognition to both her family and the state with her remarkable performance.
