Shillong, March 28, 2026: The Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has clarified that there is no shortage of domestic LPG supply in Meghalaya, countering recent reports suggesting otherwise.
Officials stated that domestic LPG is being supplied normally, with the State Government strengthening monitoring through State and District LPG committees, along with daily coordination with oil marketing companies.
The government acknowledged a brief disruption after March 20, attributed to policy adjustments, e-KYC implementation, operational delays at distributor levels, and misinformation that led to panic booking. However, supply has stabilised since March 24 and is meeting household demand.
While domestic supply remains stable, commercial LPG continues to face constraints due to caps imposed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The state has taken up the matter with the Centre, seeking relaxation considering Meghalaya’s dependence on tourism and lack of PNG infrastructure.
Data indicates steady improvement, with 22,094 domestic cylinders supplied between March 25–27, Average daily supply of 7,300–7,400 cylinders and Logistics scaling up to 30 truckloads per day. Commercial supply is also gradually improving with 190–200 cylinders supplied daily. The government has initiated daily inspections and monitoring, warning of strict action against hoarding, black marketing, and overcharging.
Authorities have advised citizens not to panic or stockpile LPG and to rely only on verified information. For assistance, the public can contact the toll-free number 1967 or WhatsApp helpline 9402327737.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted and equitable LPG supply across the state while safeguarding consumer interests and key economic sectors.
