Balarisha Thyrniang Secures Third Place in 10 KM Women’s Race

Shillong, April 2: In a proud moment for Meghalaya, Balarisha Thyrniang, Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, Eastern West Khasi Hills, Mairang, has won the bronze medal in the 10 KM Women’s Race Event at the Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026 held in Chhattisgarh.

Representing Meghalaya at the prestigious national-level event, Thyrniang completed the race in 42 minutes and 29 seconds, securing the third position in the competition.

The achievement adds to her growing list of accolades. Last year, she had secured 1st position in her age category and 3rd place overall in the women’s category at the Asia Tata Mumbai Marathon held in Mumbai.

Her accomplishment highlights the sporting talent emerging from the state and brings recognition to Meghalaya at the national level.
