Shillong, April 6: An incident of theft and robbery has been reported at an ATM room belonging to The Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd at Bhoirymbong Lumdaitkhla village, with unknown miscreants allegedly stealing a substantial amount of cash.
According to an FIR forwarded by the In-Charge of Umroi Police Outpost and filed by the Branch Manager of the bank’s Bhoirymbong branch, the incident is suspected to have taken place between the midnight of April 5 and the early hours of April 6, 2026.
The matter came to light when the bank’s security guard arrived at around 8:00 AM on April 6 to open the ATM room, which was found shut down under suspicious circumstances. Upon inspection, it was discovered that a total amount of ₹7,77,500 (Rupees seven lakh seventy-seven thousand five hundred) had been stolen from the ATM room.
Following the complaint, police have registered a case at Umiam Police Station vide Case No. 20(4)2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to theft and robbery.
An investigation has been initiated, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the persons involved in the incident.
