Shillong, April 07: Wangaal Lama of Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School, who topped the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination, expressed his gratitude, stating that the outcome mattered less than the effort he put in. “The results didn’t matter to me because what I performed I did it with my whole heart. No regrets,” he said.
Lama shared his surprise and happiness upon learning about his achievement. “When I got it, it just felt like a dream, I was so nervous, I didn’t even check my results,” he said, recalling how he reached school to find a commotion before being informed of his success. “When they brief me about my results, I could not even believe it. I am just so happy,” he added.
Speaking about his success, Lama emphasised the importance of self-belief and perseverance. “You should never think that you are less than anyone… The foremost thing is that you have to believe in yourself,” he advised.
He also encouraged students to look beyond textbooks and gain broader life experiences. “Don’t be a book worm, you should have a whole life experience. Have vast knowledge of the topics and when you write, write through your heart,” he said.
Undecided about his future plans, Lama remained philosophical, saying, “God will help me find my purpose in life, Don’t think of me as a topper. I just studied. I know that thousands of people were expecting this but fortunately I topped it.”
He further added, “Do it wholeheartedly and keep in mind that you are doing this because it is a duty and because you want it. When you give it your all, the results won’t matter to you.”
Meanwhile, Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School Principal Amit Thapa expressed his elation over the institution’s performance, describing the occasion as a landmark moment. “I am still lost for words. It is really a victory day for the Gorkha Pathshala family. For the first time, our student has achieved top position in the SSLC board exams and two other students have achieved 7th and 8th position,” he said.
Thapa attributed the success to the collective efforts of the school community. “I say it is the joint efforts of my dedicated teachers, my devoted students, everything was done. Maybe that’s what has resulted in this result,” he said.
He expressed pride in the institution’s consistent efforts, stating, “I have never felt that our school was second to any other schools. We have a team of dedicated teachers who have always been working hard.”
As the school celebrates its 150th year, Thapa described the achievement as a special milestone. “I couldn’t have anything better than this gift from our students in this historic year,” he added.
He further expressed hope that the success would inspire future batches. “I think it will motivate my students… We feel that we are second to none,” he said, adding that he felt “on top of the world.”
