District Administration Reviews Monsoon Preparedness in East Khasi Hills

Shillong, April 8: A District Coordination Meeting of the Incident Response Team (IRT), East Khasi Hills District, was held on April 8, 2026, at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District. The meeting was chaired by R. M. Kurbah, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District.

The meeting was attended by S. Warjri, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO (DDMA), along with officials from various line departments, Block Development Officers, Sub-Divisional Officers (C), and representatives from the Armed and Paramilitary Forces. The objective was to review the preparedness of all departments and ensure effective coordination during any calamities in the upcoming monsoon season of 2026.

During the meeting, it was decided that all departments will prioritize pre-monsoon preparedness measures. These include inspection of flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, as well as assessment of vulnerable trees and electricity lines that may pose risks during strong winds and heavy rainfall.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of conducting regular mock exercises across government offices to strengthen emergency response mechanisms. Fire safety audits of buildings were also highlighted as a critical component of preparedness. Departments were directed to update and maintain an inventory of available resources for effective emergency response. The Chairperson urged all government officials to remain vigilant and ensure prompt and coordinated response during any disaster situation.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the district administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive planning and inter-departmental coordination.
