Man Convicted for Attempt to Murder in Ri-Bhoi, Sentenced to 5 Years Imprisonment

Shillong, April, 24 : A court in Ri-Bhoi district has convicted a man in connection with an attempt to murder case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment.

According to an official statement, Charles Nongrum was found guilty under Sections 307 and 326 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Court of Sessions Judge, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh, sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment for the offence.

In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000, and in default of payment, the convict will have to undergo 15 days of simple imprisonment. For a separate offence under Section 323 IPC, the court further sentenced him to six months imprisonment.

The case pertains to an incident involving an attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt to a girl victim. Police informed that the case was registered at Umiam Police Station (Case No. 62(07)2022) under Sections 307/326 IPC and was investigated by UBSI Suraj Baraily.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
